Abstract

Taiwanese universities offer students majoring in the Japanese language the opportunity to take news and media courses in their middle and high school years. This study examines how to improve students’ learning effectiveness within a limited time. Students taking the Media Language course were surveyed and interviewed to identify which listening strategies were most effective for developing their listening skills. The findings showed that good learners spent more time studying and had more effective learning strategies.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to establish the academic and social inclusion of students with disabilities in Institutions of higher learning at Kenyatta University in Kenya. The paper focused on the academic and social support as experienced by the students in the course of their studies at the institution. The study adopted a descriptive survey method using both qualitative and quantitative approaches, including questionnaires and Interview to collect data. 29 students with various disabilities participated in the study and 1 administrator in working in the disability service directorate. Findings indicate that students perceived a lack of inclusion in the issuance of academic materials and participation in excursions while in social activities the least inclusive activities were hobbies and major University activities like the culture week and the major conclusions were that the University should be enhanced to include a Disability Support section. And develop strategies for disability inclusion in every aspect of the students’ academic and nob-academic life and that the section should provide advice to respective units within the University accordingly.

Abstract

Assistive technology and devices includes a variety of tools and equipment that enable people with disabilities to acquire independence in their functioning capabilities. . Quantitative and Qualitative data was used in this study. The researcher’s role was to gain a holistic overview of the context under study. The sample comprised teachers educating learners with physical disabilities and learners with physical disabilities (LWPD) in Kisumu and Machakos Districts. Findings indicate that the assistive devices provided to learners must be relevant and effective and that teachers should provide information on how learners ambulate and the activities that are required to engage in while in school, further, they will need to observe the difficulties faced by these learners while using the current devices and recommend what they think is likely to suit the learners better.

Abstract

The study focused on the influence of parents’ support for pupils’ transition from pre-primary schools to lower primary schools. The focus was on Jimeta, a major city that is located in Adamawa state, Nigeria. UNICEF views parents’ readiness and support as the extent to which parents understand the importance of education for their children. The article further states that parental support in areas such as direct participation in school activities academic encouragement and expectations for pupils’ attainment had helped pupils to experience the positive transition to school. The researchers used descriptive survey research design to gather information from selected respondents. Descriptive survey research design was considered appropriate for this study because facts, opinions and authentic information about the current study would be obtained. Parents’ Support was measured by actions parents undertake which included: feeding and emotional support such as playing with a child, parents helping with homework and siblings familiarizing children to the schools before their enrolment in primary one. The study revealed that parents who agreed that they fed their children before they go to school were 87.65%. Parents unanimously agreed that they provide the necessary school materials for their children (100%). However, some 12% of parents confessed that they do not provide food for their children to take to school. Besides, 55% of parents declared that they assist their children with their homework. Finally, 42% of the parents said they encourage their children to attend school. The study revealed that parents visited their children’s schools to find out about their performance. It also showed that parents assisted their children with their homework. Although the study revealed that quite a number of parents attended Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meetings, some never attended but send a representative. The study concluded that parents’ support had helped pupils to transit to formal schooling but it was not very smooth.

Abstract

The current treaty that governs intergovernmental actions on climate change is the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol will come to an end in 2020 and be replaced by the Paris Climate Agreement. The Paris Agreement differs substantially from its predecessor, the Kyoto Protocol, because it removes the differentiation between the developing and developed countries on their climate actions. The major implications of the Paris Agreement for Malaysia are discussed.

Abstract

Sri Lanka is unique in ageing experience both demographically and culturally. This research on Sinhalese old age is based on new paradigm anthropological assumption of a ‘human actor’ constructs the culture. The main objective is to capture the multi-faceted meaning bound with the concept elder. Twenty in-depth interviews clarified the meaning behind traits attributed to old age derived through the cultural domain analysis (n=100) followed by the techniques of free listing and pile sorting. Field work was carried out in Maharagama and Balangoda divisional secretariat divisions of Sri Lanka. Traits of elderly vary on the basis of age, gender, social class and living sector. Analysis proposed six not mutually exclusive elder types namely, Predominantly religious, Family centered, Socially integrated, Socially disintegrated, Disengaged sick and Life style oriented.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the hottest issues among Chinese students and teachers. Many students have difficulty in vocabulary learning, and teachers try their best in vocabulary, but the result is still not so pleasant. This phenomenon arouses many thinking and reflections. Someone pointed out there exist some misunderstandings in vocabulary teaching and learning. For example, the vocabulary teaching was cut off from the language situation; vocabulary learning without strategy guiding; and the enhancement of vocabulary lacked practice. The traditional way to vocabulary teaching is based on the word list in the textbook, which is boring for the students. Even the teachers make effort to complete the task, but the result is still unpleasant. Thus an action research was designed to try to solve the vocabulary teaching and learning problem. The results show that: The action research could improve students’ vocabulary knowledge and the ability of language use, and then internalize the knowledge; the action research could guide students in effective strategy of learning and remembering words; the action research could enhance the review job; the personal notebook could help student form a good habit of systematically review. Also to the teacher, they could know the students’ study condition. This can form a positive cycle between the teacher and the students.

Abstract

This paper combines AI, motion-sensing games, and healthcare to propose an innovative motion-sensing game framework based on AI technology. We aim to address the current issue of people's lack of exercise. In this paper, we use the multimedia machine learning tools developed by Google MediaPipe to transform the once-popular arcade game Breakout into a motion-sensing Breakout game.

In our experiments, we found that MediaPipe can misjudge in complex scenarios. However, to ensure a smooth experience with the motion-sensing Breakout game, we proposed an improved algorithm to resolve MediaPipe's misjudgments. To enhance user engagement, we also developed a two-player mode and incorporated calorie consumption estimation during the gameplay. This aims to motivate people to exercise more and improve their health. From our experiences, the motion-sensing Breakout game indeed sparks people's interest in exercise and helps them achieve physical activity through the gameplay.

Abstract

The authors in their paper focus on a current social problem of the present time, and that is poverty. Specifically, they point to the possible social connections of the lives of children in poverty, especially threats that relate to school achievements, material conditions and the learning environment; while they place these indicators in connection with the level of well-being. Research was conducted in 5 regions in Slovakia, on quite a representative sample, and the results present the current state of issues in the regions.
