Abstract

In Kenya many listed non-financial firms have undergone financial distress. This has led to loss of investors’ wealth and erosion of confidence in the capital market. The specific objective of this study was to examine the effect of cash management and financial distress of non-financial firms listed in the Nairobi Securities Exchange Market in Kenya. The study adopted panel (pooled) research design. A census of all the 41 non-financial firms listed at (NSE) as at December 2016 constituted the population of study in the period 2007 to 2016. The study used secondary data which was extracted from the financial statements and published annual reports of individual companies using secondary data collection sheet. Multiple regression analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. Fixed effects model was used to model the relationship among the study variables. The F- test was used to determine the significance of overall model; while the t- test was employed to establish the significance of the independent variable. The results of this study were expected to mitigate losses through establishing cash management techniques for use in financially distressed non-financial firms trading on NSE. The study found that cash management had a positive and significant effect on financial distress. The study therefore recommended that in order to mitigate financial distress among non-financial listed firms cash conversion cycle (a proxy for cash management) should be increased.

ABSTRACT

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities was set up in December 2004 following the enactment of The Persons with Disabilities Act (PWD) Bill 2003. Part 5 of the People with Disabilities Act, 2003 established the National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities to provide allowances to persons with severe disabilities or aged persons with disabilities or single parents with children with disabilities and who cannot seek employment. The Overall objective of the program was to enhance the capacities of the caregivers through cash transfers thereby improving the livelihoods of persons with severe disabilities. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of disbursement practices of NDFPWD on the standard of living of the disabled in Kenya. This study was based on Public Finance Theory and Resource Based Theory. Explanatory research design was used in this study. The 6 national officers who are representatives of the various categories of disabilities, and 14689 persons with severe disabilities in Kenya who were beneficiaries of the National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities were targeted. Since the target population was large and not manageable, purposive sampling method was used to select the sample. Questionnaires and document checklist were the data collection instruments. To establish reliability of research instruments the Cronbach’s coefficient alpha model was used and its figure stood at 0.714 showing high reliability. To establish content Validity of the instruments, pilot test was conducted using the instruments to verify their validity. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and thus regression and correlation were captured. The Social Package for Statistical science (SPSS) software aided in data analysis. The results show that low amount and infrequent disbursement (β=.393, t=5.968, p<0.000). Had a significantly negative influence on the standard of living of persons living with disability in Kenya. The study therefore recommends that: National Development Fund management should disburse more funds to the disabled, upwards of Kshs 10,000 to help the disabled improve their standard of living. This disbursement should be done monthly and in accordance to the National Development Fund Act.

Abstract

Even though the proper laboratory techniques have been done to avoid blood reactions before transfusion, still there are blood reactions that have been reported and the source of these reactions are unknown .The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the prevalence of bacterial contamination in donated blood collected in Eastern zone blood transfusion centre within Dar es Salaam city. The two objectives guided the study: to determine the prevalence of bacterial contamination in donated blood and to describe the Antimicrobial sensitivity pattern of the isolated bacterial pathogens in the donated blood. This research was conducted using cross section survey with 384 respondents calculated using estimation method formulary : N=Z2P (1-P)/e2 Where by: N= Sample size Z=Standard normal deviate corresponding to two sided (1.96) P=Prevalence of bacteria pathogens in donated blood e= margin of error (5%) thus, N=1.962 X 0.5 (1-0.5)/ (0.05)2 =384. A mixed method was adopted. The quantitative and qualitative data were acquired through observation checklist, documentary review and questionnaire methods as to gather information of respondents. The findings reveled that about 2.8% had bacterial contamination, of which 2.3% were gram positive cocci and 0.5% gram positive rods. Again, the bacterial isolates were about 63.6% coagulase negative staphylococci which were identified as staphylococcus epidermidis whereby 18.2% were micro cocci identified as M.luteus and bacilli species identified as Corynebacterium diphtheroids. Again, sensitivity among the organisms varied; as all the 100% of the organisms isolated being sensitive to amikacin. According to these findings the isolates obtained in the donated blood are skin associated organisms and they are considered as contaminants related to procedure during donor bleeding.

Abstract:

Employee turnover is always bad and realities of how employee turnover affects organisations involve higher costs. The human resource crisis in Tanzania local government has continued to increase than before in numerous cadres such as secondary education and health sub-sectors such that there are regular resignations occurring. The experience of Tanzania lying on Human Resource crisis for Health (HRH) shortage is at 67% respectively. Mal-motivation compounds for this shortage.

Still employee motivation towards human resources management is often under-estimated and least understood among employer’s roles within their workplaces. This paper aimed at investigating the role employees’ motivation play in promoting Human Resource retention in Tanzanian local government authorities. The study was survey research designed involving qualitative and quantitative research approaches using eighty seven subjects comprising employees and employers from Kasulu, Buhingwe and Kigoma District headquarters in Tanzania. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews and documentary review. Statistical package for social science 16.0 version (SPSS) was used in data analysis for all closed questionnaires along with content analysis for qualitative texts. The major research findings revealed the nature of motivations is complex and that there are no simple answers to the questions on factors that do motivate employees. As a consequence, the findings indicated mixed results such that each employee had a unique motivator. Therefore, the study recommends that managers and employers should provide varieties of motivation in order to retain them and achieve the required results.

ABSTRACT

The study sought to establish the relationship between working capital management and profitability of private health facilities in Mombasa County, Kenya. The study used a cross-sectional casual research design. The target population comprised of 10 private health facilities. Data was collected from secondary sources for between 2012 and 2018. Regression analysis was used to establish the actual relationship between the study variables. The dependant variable was financial performance while the independent variable being working capital management practices. The study found out that a positive significant relationship exists between profitability, collection of average period and Consumable materials used. Average payment period revealed an opposite association with profitability. The study concluded that there exist a significant relationship between financial performance and working capital management in health facilities in Mombasa County. Thus increase in profitability is shown when there is an increase in Accounts payable while decreasing with an increase in accounts receivable. The study recommends that efforts should be made to ensure consumables being purchased at the facilities are being used effectively so as to reap maximum profit.

Abstract

Competence in Uzbek composition writing skills is particularly important in determining students’ performance in Uzbek because this will enable the students to improve in their Uzbek composition paper and consequently do well in the overall Uzbek examination in the University examination. Students also use Uzbek writing skills to answer questions in the other Uzbek papers order-cheap-cialis.net of the University examination. That means writing skills also determine how well the students will perform in all the Uzbek papers. In order to acquire the writing skills in Uzbek, students need to be facilitated by their teachers since writing is only acquired by being taught. In view of the performance in Uzbek in the University examination and given the important role of the teachers in teaching writing skills, this paper therefore intends to investigate how teachers’ pedagogical competencies influence students’ performance in Uzbek writing skills. The teachers’ pedagogical competencies which the paper focuses on are; teachers’ planning to teach, teaching methods, learning resources, classroom management, and designing of assessment techniques to evaluate learners’ performance in Uzbek composition writing skills. The paper seeks to establish whether teachers’ pedagogical competencies in planning for teaching influences students’ performance in Uzbek writing skills in Korean universities. In addition, the paper attempts to determine whether teachers’ pedagogical competencies in teaching methods influence students’ performance in Uzbek writing skills in Korean Universities. The other area of concern is to establish whether teachers’ pedagogical competencies in classroom management styles influence students’ performance in Uzbek writing skills in Korean universities. Finally, it seeks to determine whether teachers’ pedagogical competencies in design and assessment techniques influence students’ performance in Uzbek writing skills in Korean universities.
