ABSTRACT

The study investigated the effect of formative Assessment on students’ achievement in secondary school Mathematics. Three hypotheses guided the study. The experimental research design was employed.. One hundred and twenty (120) Mathematics students in secondary II Art classes in two public schools in Iseyin Local Government of Oyo State, Nigeria selected through purposive technique made up the study sample.. Formative Test I, II and III and Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) were used for data collection. Data were analysed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test statistical tools. Findings from analysis revealed that formative assessment has a strong significant difference in the mean achievement score of Mathematics students that are exposed to it (t = 36.54, p =000) while there is no significant difference in the mean achievement scores of student who are not expose to formative assessment (t=2.053, p = 0.045). Also, there is no gender difference in the achievement scores of Mathematics students that are exposed to formative assessment (t=0.112, p = 0.053). The study recommended that all School Administrators should emphasis the use of formative assessment by all teachers and they should allow, encourage and provide incentives for them to attend seminars, workshops, conference and in-services training to enhance their performance and to acquire necessary skills to constructing formative tests.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of market orientation on banker’s performance. This study was greatly motivated by the inconsistent findings in the contemporary literature regarding the relationships between market orientation and performance. Due to these inconsistencies, a new research stream emerged which suggests investigating the effect of market orientation that may better explain the nature of the link. This study followed a rigorous process to establish the construct validity of the measure by employing CFA using SPSS statistical software packages. The findings of this study revealed that market orientation was significant predictor of banker’s performance. This study, however, supported the premises of resource-based theory confirming the importance of market orientation for any successful bank branch managers. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that market orientation should be developed in prior to banker’s performance.

Abstract

Tactics intelligence is analyzed information about competitors that support the day to day operations of a company to advance specific operational objectives. To compete effectively in the turbulent business environment firms, have been forced to embrace advanced competences that support strategic decision making by providing accurate and timely information on opportunities and threats, competitor assessment that support strategic planning and implementation which is the main objective of competitive intelligence. Tactics oriented competitive intelligence deals with current activities and short-term plans identifiable in the marketplace. The target population for the study were all the sixty firms listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). Primary data was collected by the use of a semi-structured questionnaire and secondary data was obtained from published financial reports. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The findings indicate that strategy oriented competitive intelligence practice had a positive and statistically significant relationship with the performance in the firms listed on the Nairobi securities exchange.

Abstract

Source guides and catalogues attest to the fact that Caribbean natural history has inspired curiosity and study for centuries. If we confine ourselves to published treatises, however, it appears that women participated very little in exploring and documenting the region’s natural environment. A very different picture emerges, however, when we turn to women’s letters, travelogues, and drawings, where they recorded their observations of Caribbean flora, fauna, rocks, and fossils and through which they shared their findings with the wider community. Focusing on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, this paper, “On the Periphery: Women, Science and Caribbean Natural History” recovers these forgotten efforts of women who lived in and visited the Caribbean and examines them in the larger context of women working on the periphery of European science.

Abstract

This study aimed at examining the effect of semi formal financial institutions credit to maize productivity of rural smallholder farmers in Sumbawanga rural and Mbozi districts in Tanzania. The study was guided by the theory of financial intermediation and neoclassical economic growth theory. The research design was descriptive quantitative in nature where balanced panel data for the year 2018 to 2020 was used. Random effect model was used to analyze 321 sample observations of the collected secondary data which involved 107 individuals. The results indicated that semi formal financial institutions credit has significant and positive effect on maize productivity. It was also revealed that semi formal financial institutions credit has significant and positive association with maize productivity. The study concludes that semi formal financial institutions credit is predictor of maize productivity to rural smallholder farmers in Tanzania. Thus, it is recommended that policy makers (government) should set policies that encourage the increase of financial access points, reduced transaction costs and enrolling agricultural trustworthy agents in rural areas.

Abstract

In a three months period from April to July 1994, more than one million Tutsi were killed in the genocide against the Tutsi. This genocide was systematically planned and executed by use of machetes, guns and other traditional tools. Today there is a strong denial of this genocide despite the tangible proof for its existence. The majority of genocide deniers claim to promote peace, human rights and true reconciliation. It is being denied in the speeches of conferences, in the media and academic debates and writings in the name of democracy, freedom of speech, academic freedom and reconciliation; which cruelly cut through the hearts of the survivors of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi and nation as whole. Denying this crime inflicts psychological torture on the victims, thereby delaying their healing or permanently impairing the process.

ABSTRACT

At the end of 14th century, the world has entered a new era with the beginning of renaissance. Discovery of new sea routes create some financial centers. Developments have led to an increase in money exchange between countries. As a result of the growing trade movements banks were established and became an important factor for the finance sector. Lots of people started to work for banks. Banking sector employees are in constant interaction with people because of their work. Lots of times banking sector employees face with contrary expectations in their workplace. They can only satisfy one expectation and it causes to role conflict. Role conflict can influence on job resourcefulness and job outcomes. Our goal is examining the relationships between role conflict, job resourcefulness and job outcomes. This study is based on Harris et al. Data were gathered from 96 employees, who are working at Banks in Denizli, Turkey. SPSS was used for the data analysis. As a result, we found that Job Resourcefulness and Role Conflict have low and positive relationship, Intention to Leave Job and Role Conflict have a low and positive relationship too, at last we found that Job Resourcefulness and Job Satisfaction have a low and negative relationship.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between participatory research, the principles of governance and the scientific founding of local development. Following a short analysis of heuristic and practical qualities of participatory research, the study summarises some of the fundamental issues presented in the White Paper on European Governance. This document is of high importance for all levels of governance, starting with local to national and European governance. In order to further explore this issue, the study will focus upon a series of previous researches in which we used the restoring of results, as a basic participatory research instrument in the research previously carried out.
