Abstract

In spite of the astronomical growth of universities in Nigeria, both Federal and State Government have not been able to contend with the surging demand for university education and employment. Universities in recent times, in response to societal developments are subscribing to the pressure of ethnicity where certain issues like the appointment of Vice Chancellor (VC) which was predicated on vital requirements such as experience, qualification, scholarship, integrity among others are sacrificed under the pressure from various states agitating for the representation of their sons and daughters in these exalted positions. This study seeks to perceive ways of reducing the impact of ethnicity in the management of universities in Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 14,347 staff in Federal and State universities in North Central Nigeria. A sample of 1,435 was drawn through stratified proportionate sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaire and interviews. The questionnaire was structured and designed on a 4-point scale. Out of 1,435 questionnaire that were distributed, 1,035 were returned. Data was analyzed using mean scores, standard deviations. The obvious implications of this are the continuous decline of the desired standards universities education and continuous ethnic conflict, marginalization and alienation of minority group of students and workers. It was recommended that Government should implement the federal character principle at both Federal and State universities. Universities in addition to achieving excellence should encourage universality out of which it derives her name, foster care, respect, and integrity, promote equity and justice as well as provide fertile ground for the Federal Character Principle and other national policies.

Abstract

The philosophy of science investigates the scientific knowledge, and its practice is a tool to know and perceive the point of view of the investigator. It based on the development of a set of problems to solve; two ways solve these problems, solving the Problems of Philosophy using scientific thinking and scientific problem solving using the philosophical mentality. With this important tool, you can criticize, discuss and evaluate the decisions of researchers. In this work the influence and the return of Greek philosophy in the philosophy of science for the twenty-first century is shown.

Abstract

Throughout the world, mathematical competence is necessary for personal fulfillment, active citizenship, social inclusion and employability. Education stakeholders in many countries have expressed increasing concern about achievement in mathematics. Language plays a significant role in mathematical solution to various tasks and may affect achievement. A learner may not perform well in mathematics not necessarily because of weak mathematical ability but due to challenges in understanding the language involved. The purpose of the study was to explore the effects of language-based factors in the assessment tasks on student achievement in mathematics. The study employed descriptive survey research design. The research was carried out in ten secondary schools in Tharaka-Nithi County, Kenya. The subjects were form four students and simple random sampling technique was used to select the participating schools. Mathematics Achievement Tests were administered to provide the needed data. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data obtained. Results of the study revealed that solving mathematical problems modified into mathematical expressions had a positive effect on improving student mathematics achievement. The findings gives insights to test developers to provide effective assessment that incorporates a variety of approaches that recognize the strengths of students especially those struggling with English language.

Abstract

The study examined the extent to which primary school teachers in Delta State, practice continuous assessment in line with the educational policy in Nigeria. Two research questions were drawn and two hypotheses formulated for the study. A sample of 1000 primary school teachers was randomly drawn using proportionate stratified random sampling technique based on sex and location of teachers. A 4-point scaled questionnaire was used. The validity of the instrument was determined through expert judgement and factor analysis. The instrument has face and construct validities. The reliability of the instrument was established Cronbach Alpha. A reliability coefficency of 0.90 was obtained as a measure of internal consistency The data collected were analyzed. The research questions were answered with the use of mean. The hypotheses were tested with z – test at .05 level of significance. The result showed that the extent of teachers practice of continuous assessment in line with the education policy was low. There was no significance difference between male and female teachers as well as rural and urban teachers on the practice of continuous assessment in line with the educational policy or National Policy on Education. It was noted that continuous assessment should be practice in line with the National Policy on Education.

Abstract

Although our country's pelagic fishery equipment has made rapid progress in the past ten years, our country's fishery technology level still has a large gap in many aspects compared with the advanced countries and regions in the world. Moreover, in the era of rapid development of science and technology, it is also an era of resource crisis. Science and technology have indeed promoted the progress of history and made society develop rapidly, but science and technology have not brought mankind all the gospel, but also brought a crisis. Therefore, under the conditions of fierce market competition, our country's pelagic fishery equipment enterprises must take the road of improving technology and efficiency and aiming at economic benefits, otherwise it will be difficult to develop.Based on this, this article focuses on our country's pelagic fishery equipment enterprises that have been established for more than five years to conduct research on issues in the process of international competition and green development. First, what is the relationship between globalization strategy, resource efficiency and corporate performance? Under the globalization strategy, our country's pelagic fishery equipment companies are facing opportunities for market expansion and business expansion, as well as technological threats. In the process of green development, although the resource allocation of the product structure of China's pelagic fishery equipment enterprises has improved compared with the past, the energy saving and emission reduction of equipment is still weak. Therefore, this article studies the relationship between globalization strategy, resource efficiency and corporate performance. Second, what is the relationship between globalization strategy, resource efficiency and the institutional environment? The industry threats caused by the technological development and the status quo of resource efficiency brought about by the globalization strategy of pelagic fishery equipment enterprises can promote the continuous optimization of fishery policies and create a good external environment for the development of pelagic fishery equipment industry. Therefore, this article studies the relationship between globalization strategy, resource efficiency and institutional environment. The research results of this paper show that: The pursuit of economies of scale in the production dimension in the globalization strategy will affect the limitations of the regional institutional environment on the acquisition of corporate resources. Second, the high standards of marketing resource efficiency and human resource efficiency in resource efficiency will affect the construction of the institutional environment. Third, the production dimension, marketing dimension, and management policy dimension in the globalization strategy synergistically promote corporate performance. Fourth, the establishment of a competitive advantage based on resource efficiency is a boost to improve corporate performance. Fifth, the institutional environment affects organizational decision-making and organizational behavior. Sixth, reasonable resource efficiency improves the organization's adaptability to complex environments. Seventh, the institutional environment affects the value creation of corporate strategies. In response to the above conclusions, this article provides suggestions for improving the performance of pelagic fishery equipment companies from the three perspectives of the government, industry, and enterprises: China's pelagic fishery equipment enterprises should fully grasp the information related to the overall investment environment of the host country, and also focus on the system training of senior management and overseas employees to prevent prevent the external institutional environment from affecting the layout of enterprise strategy and the improvement of performance.

Abstract:

In the first part of this study we review various approaches to employability. We highlight some frequently quoted definitions to be found in the literature, and mention possible ways of measuring employability. Following the literature review we analyse empirically job congruence for young graduates. We would like to answer the question of how the amount of time spent on job search influences one of the subjective indices of employability, job congruence. We also analyse the link between job search time and horizontal congruence in different professional fields. We conclude that the link between job search and job congruence is negative. Graduates employed in the appropriate field spent less time looking for a job. We assumed that there are differences among professional fields and our assumption was confirmed. In most fields for which it is difficult to find substitute employment there is a significant difference between job-search time for congruently and incongruently employed young graduates.

Abstract

This is a research reported on the workshop made during needs assessment of a gap between knowledge and practice of Secondary Schools Science and Mathematics Inspectors (SSI) in the process of providing support, liaison and control to the implementation of developed innovation in science, mathematics and ICT. Thirteen (13) SSI attended the workshop. Questionnaire, interview protocols and observations were the means of collecting data. Findings and observations showed that the inspectors had inadequate knowledge and skills of providing support, liaison and control to the innovations that were continuously being implemented in secondary school. It was concluded that sustainability of the new innovations depended largely on the involvement of the SSI knowledge and skills to monitor and evaluate them.
